Sacha Finkelsztajn: La Boutique Jaune – Le Marais
November 18, 2016
Paris has had its ups and downs with us Jews. Mostly downs. Sadly the once-thriving Jewish quarter of Le Marais is all but non-existent. Mainly due to the influx of bougie boutiques buying out family run businesses. There is, however, a crap load of falafel. Nothing wrong with that, just saying there’s a lot of it.
Luckily, my favorite delicatessen in Paris still remains, Sacha Finkelsztajn: La Boutique Jaune. Started in 1946 it has been a family run business ever since.
Their homemade food is the quintessential Eastern European Jew experience. I like to think my great-grandmother would approve of their goods.
We got some Challah. That’s bread made with egg for you gentiles.
Saucisson aka salami. Hebrew National has got nothing on this stuff. Saucisson Sticks aka a beef stick.
The only place I have been able to find something close to this is in Los Angeles, at a creepy Jewish butcher shop. Tell me New Yorkers where can I get this? Help a gal out!
This hummus speaks to me of the motherland… Israel. You would be surprised how easy it is to fuck hummus up.
There you have it, simple but delicious food. La Boutique Jaune is a must go to if you find yourself in Paris!
