Mahina – Base Terre, Guadeloupe
June 3, 2016
I’m big on eating where the locals eat when on vacation. I really try and stay away from tourist traps. The food usually sucks and it’s overpriced. Mahina, on the Rue de la Vague Bleue, was jammed packed every day with locals, so we knew we had to eat there. And we did. Twice. You’re probably thinking they served some amazing French or Caribbean food. Nope, Mahina is a Pizza place. Don’t judge me! The French know how to make a damn good pizza. Dare I say better than the Italians? I mean I’ve been to Italy and they have fantastic pizza there too. However, I think the French are winning this match. My mouth is watering thinking about their pizza pies!
The first night we tried Mahina we ordered some Tapas to start with and of course Ti Punch.
Tapenade and Poisson Marine.
I’m a sucker for tapas and this was so good! The olive tapenade was delicious and the marinated fish reminded me of ceviche.
We then had a Greek Salad.
Always eat your veggies!
For pizza, I had the Mozzarella.
Seriously one of the best pizzas I have ever had! The crust was thin and perfect and the mozzarella cheese was melt in your mouth heaven.
I wasn’t about to share mine, so my BF ordered his own pizza.
Regina: Fromage, Jambon, et Olives
His was yummy, but mine was better. I’m a classic type of gal.
Of course, we had to order dessert. We got Creme Burlee.
This Creme Brulee killed it for me in the most wonderful way.
They offered us an after dinner cordial of Rum spiced with coffee and orange notes.
It was such a wonderful dinner we went back the next night.
Once again we started off with some Tapas: Poisson, Chèvre, Tapenade.
We were expecting the Chèvre to be a goat tapas, but it ended up being goat cheese. I love goat cheese.
For pizza, I had Margarete avec les Onions.
Warren ordered Exotique – Curry Chicken, Pimentos, Pineapple, and Onion.
It was good, but curry chicken on pizza is just weird to me.
If you ever find yourself in the beautiful French Caribbean island of Guadeloupe go to Mahina, you won’t regret it!
